I started learning to surf when I was 7 years old, and I really enjoyed surfing. Every day I learned to surf in the morning, went to school in the afternoon and then surfed to late in the evening. I really enjoyed standing on the waves and at the age of 12 I was brave enough to take it on. Surfing in 3 ft waves I was very scared, because the waves were very big to me and I was accompanied by Caucasians and my brother, they always encouraged me to take waves and at that time I was traumatized because the waves I took rolled me so badly. I stopped going surfing in big waves, I was afraid of big waves and big barrels. I continued to surf though and at the age of 15 to 16 I started again learning how to take bigger waves, not too big though because I was still afraid of big waves. In the next few months, I saw my brother taking the big waves and my heart asked ‘why can my brother conquer big waves but why can’t I?’ In 2019 I started to dare to surf big waves again! My trauma started to disappear and I started to like big waves, really like them! Now I’m not afraid of barrels anymore, instead I love barrels. I watched surfing videos on how to ride big waves and did everything I could to learn the best techniques. To this day I’m still learning how to take waves and read the situations. My principle is surfing every day, learning is not playing around for me, and it is not just a hobby! We shouldn’t hesitate when taking big waves, if we are in doubt we will get hurt and we must be brave! From now on I want to conquer big waves!!
