I am a manager and refer to a couple of my team members as kid, this has really made me think. It’s just a nickname in my eyes , it’s a loving nod to them but I will ensure I change it going forward.

The thing about this is they don’t like to be told to treat you as any other adult. I spoke up about this at my job and it was held against me until the end even though I was just creating a professional boundary.
