@homewitbrit: Sorrel anyone? 😌 Sweet & full of alcoholic goodness? Yes, it’s the one and one number one drink at Christmas time in Jamaica household. At Christmas time this is a must and I’d say an absolute essential during the festive season! I started this series to pull together the top three drinks I enjoyed during this time of the year and this holds the number one spot. This sweet yet , tangy and spiced hibiscus drink hits the spot each and everytime. What is sorrel you may ask? Sorrel also known as hibiscus or “roselle,” is a plant that grows abundantly in Jamaica. It has deep red sepals, which are the part of the plant used to make the popular sorrel drink , especially around Christmas. When these sepals are steeped in hot water, they create a bright red, tangy, and slightly tart infusion. 💭 Sorrel is packed with antioxidants and has potential health benefits, such as reducing inflammation and supporting digestion. 📌 LIKE, SAVE FOR LATER 📌 FOLLOW FOR MORE RECIPE ⬇️ 200g of dried sorrel 2-3 cinnamon sticks 1 tbsp gloves Pimento seeds Brown sugar - @Tropical Sun White rum to taste - of course I used wrayandnephew Red label wine is also required* I didn’t have any Simple syrup - this is optional Dried orange peels 375g fresh ginger - grated 7 cups of water (or more depending on pot size) Method 1. To a pot of water add cloves, cinnamon sticks, orange peel and greater ginger. 2. Simmer for 15 mins on low heat 3. Add dried sorrel to pan (can wash before use) 4. Add more water if needed 5. Add whole pimentos and stir 6. Simmer for 20 mins on low heat 7. Once the sorrel has simmered , you can leave to steep over night (I did) it brings out much more flavour but a minimum of 4 hours is required 8. Strain the sorrel into another bowl and strain again for extra smoothness 9. Sweeten with brown sugar - I used some simple syrup also but this is optional 10. Add white rum (to your liking) and red label wine (I didn’t have any red label wine so I didn’t use any. 11. Serve with some ice and enjoy! - #hibiscus #sorrel #jamaicanrecipe #christmasdrink #jamaicandrink #homewitbrit #christmas #viral
