I’ve always waited at the line until I see a chance to turn then I start creeping out in the middle. No point in racing the red, especially if the opposite end has people turning right still

This doesn’t work for the lights with no green arrow..say there was a never ending line of oncoming cars, you would never get to turn if you sat there waiting at the line

Not only that, staying out of the intersection keeps you on the contact point in the lane to eventually get a green arrow if you're there long enough on the correct phase.
