We are catholic and we wear black for a while and we have to also be completely covered at a funeral, we are not allowed to wear crosses on show as it’s seen as bad luck 🙏

we sit up and have the deceased at home a day or two before the actual funeral. (if we can) we have the coffin indoors and open

crazy how similar our cultures are, I’m arab and we have to wear black for 12 months if someone close to us passes away.you can’t be seen not doing that you’d be looked down + would look like you’re

I did the sit up for my granfer two years ago. “we simply called it the sitting” I sadly didn’t wear black for the full 12 months, but for the few weeks after he passed.

My dads family don’t eat meat until after the funeral and he never expected me to join in but I joined in for the first time last year when my aunt died but I adapted it and eat chicken and had meat as a last resort if there’s nothing else I would eat as I’m fussy and my teachers at school love learning about it especially my year 11 history teacher

I find that all gypsy I know do most of these things and I just find it so respectful and think that gypsy families do their families so proud and give them the best send offs, think us non travellers should take note ❤
