I have a BA in art history. Most of our exams were hand written short form essays, only people allowed to type were people who had accommodations and our school provided alphasmarts.

all mastery writing is being done with paper and pencil in my class. Assignments that take multiple days are collected at the end of class and given back the next day to work on. 7th grade ELA.

So how would the typed ban work for students with disabilities? My writing is illegible due to physical limitations. Unless I use a laptop or other typography tools no one can read what I write.

i graduated hs in 2016 and we had to hand write our essays in class my senior year and we didn’t even have chat gpt. i grew so much as writer that year

As someone with public speaking anxiety that leads to both physical symptoms (stomach, sweating, fainting) as well as mental block. I can write so well but this would have destroyed my education.

Chat GPT is soooo powerful. You really can get it to do the assignment 90%+, make it undetectable and in your voice. Great for work, bad for school 😳

Teacher here: YEP. Honestly? The handwriting is bad, the grammar and spelling is horrible, but I get such a better picture of their ACTUAL THOUGHTS. It’s wonderful.

Formal reports are rare in the real world. When they are produced nobody reads them. Mgmt wants a summary of the summary page. They want a brief explanation with hard numbers.

Lol they can try I have a disability accommodation to type up all handwritten assignments. Also have an accommodation for a scribe.

There is a big thing where kids are having to go to OT at 5, 6, & even 7 yrs old bc they can’t physically hold a pencil (even the fat ones).
