Dep in Sarasota here, can confirm can’t ride an unregistered dirt bike at all and most definitely can’t ride any motorcycle under 16 yoa. Terrible situation but officer is not at fault imo.

Thank God the child is still alive. Y the hell is an 8 year old on a diet bike. We have a big problem with dirt bikes on the roadways and causing traffic issues or crashes. Make it a felony.

Either way, this is bad on both ends, regardless of who was at fault. The officer will forever not be the same, and the poor kid will also never be the same.

Not that it impacted this situation but from the bodycam you can watch the officer run a stop sign so saying he wasn’t violating traffic laws isn’t completely accurate

Notification will be made to Department of Child and Family Services. They’ll have an investigation for the child’s safely for the future as well if the parents are fit. I hope the kid is ok.
