The way my friend and I saw it was she’s lesbian but still trapped in her own way, in the pink opaque she could freely love - we both related to the mc’s so much it hurts

I took it as tara was trapped in a life that wasn't their own (maddy), being called a name they didnt identify with, living a life that wasn't theirs and not knowing how to escape. in my mind that lines up very well with what I imagine the trans experience to feel like (although I havent lived it so I can't be sure)
