@missclairebenjamin: 🚨 Handling sexist remarks👇 Being on the receiving end of derogatory sexist remarks can really catch you off guard. It can be hard to know how to handle it. As a result we can sometimes find ourselves absorbing it or laughing it off and then afterwards feeling incredibly small. Remember you do not need to absorb other people’s inappropriate behaviour. In these situations I would recommend shifting the dynamic and politely placing the discomfort back onto them. The important thing is not to bite or engage with the dynamic. This makes the other person look unprofessional. 💬 Leave a 🙌 in the comments if this was helpful 👀 📌 Please be mindful that the perspective offered in this video is generalised and won’t fit every situation so please follow your instincts about whether this applies to your situation. My favourite technique is to just repeatedly say “sorry I didn’t hear you, can you repeat that?” until it gets awkward

What about when Steve is far senior and you are kinda the assistant role, would this change your advice? Love your videos by the way!

How do you know it makes us uncomfortable?
Some may see it as flattery.

My universal answer to anything akward, sexist, « jokes » or else: I don’t understand, what do you mean? 😏

Agreed. However, for me, I would be calculating how much that is going to hurt my ability to get what I need to get done hurting me more in the long run .

I totally get how Claire feels, if one more person asks me if I’m a supermodel at work, Im just going to start handing out business cards with 'not a supermodel, just an HR Business Agility Tech Rep'

Then after you did, talk to Steve as well, asking why he also didn’t say something, and stand with you in support
