All taxation is evil, it doesn’t matter if it’s done to the rich or poor.

Not ALL farm / land owners are millionaires 💀 and also they’re working to produce food and so therefore are of public benefit

Defra beg to differ on the figures. Abd dont count small holdings of 10-30 acres they’re not farms they’re hobbies.

the current going rate per acre of arable farm land in my area is £16000 and grazing land is around £6000 it’s very easy to meet the tax threshold also a lot of farmers are tenants so what happens

If farmers were taking their own lives they’d still be forcing their kids to pay that tax so how would that make sense

This couldn’t be better for Labour. It is sending a loud clear message that they are on the side of normal working people rather than millionaire landowners. Such a change from Tory rule.

If you own more than £3 million in unmortgaged land, your lucky children can afford to pay 20% on the value of the land above the £3 million in installments over 10 years 🙄

what worries me, with all the subs, funds, tax breaks and tax cuts - farmers still tell us they are not making money. Now is farming a viable business in the UK? or is it now a quango? or charity?

Farmers are not cash in bank millionaires. Their assets are of high value but they need these for agriculture, it doesn’t reflect what they earn. They work 24/7 to try and make a living.

Farmers should be protesting against the capitalist class buying up agricultural land and pushing up the value of said land - to a point where it is literally overvalued.

When cucumbers from Spain cost 90p and UK grown cucumbers are £2. You know something isn’t right. Cucumbers grown not 100 miles from the shop somehow over double the price. How does that make sense?

Being taxed on your assets is very different to being taxed on your salary, income or lump sum. You don’t want the outcome of this - British farms being sold to corporate investors for development

And don’t forget the majority of family farmers will actually be eligible for up to £3m relief as they get their £1m from each parent and can separate the farm house & treat it like a regular home
