At the end of 2023, I found myself in a really dark place. I found I had lost my zest for life and almost for living, in general.  It's not been an easy journey, and I'm still a work in progress, but my mental state has improved by leaps and bounds. I feel so at peace now. I'm used to chasing highs, but this zen-like happiness, where I feel serene and calm, is brand new to me - this after 40 years on the earth! These are what have helped me through to this sort-of nirvana state: 1. Making time for things and people I love - as a priority.  Too often, I found myself being pulled in different directions because of work, or this event or another. I thought I was good at prioritising, but not that good, I guess, because I found myself feeling helpless and resentful at having to give up time with loved ones or time spent on sports. In 2024, I let what my heart wanted decide how I spent my time - and learnt to feel less guilty about it. 2. Learning to say no In line with the first, I've learnt that time and energy are finite (even though I have more energy than the average person!). Learning to say no has given me more time to do the things I most want to do. 3. Regular exercise  In a happy coincidence, engaging in outdoor sport is something I love. However, there are days I get lazy too - forcing myself out to run/netball/skate/pilates or having the discipline to end the night early to get sleep before waking at 4am to cycle isn't always easy - especially for an extrovert! But exercise helps regulate mood and boosts endorphins like nothing else can.  4. Closing doors Life is too short to be wondering if the people around you are real and true. I'm learning to shut the door on people who have less than pure motives or who show themselves to not be 100% on my team. It has cleared time for me to rekindle old friendships that matter that I've neglected (I'm sorry and grateful for all of you for being patient and loving with me) and also more time with the ones who've always been there. 5. Living better Getting more sleep, making better food choices, decluttering, and daily prayer and meditation have made such a difference.
