the problem is the people inheriting the farms have worked their entire life for less than minimum wage they haven't had the chance to save up to pay and the value of the farm is in the land it's....

Why is no one talking about the impact on land price. If it’s no longer a tax avoidance scheme then farm land prices will drop. More people can then afford to start farming.

doesn't ring true-just a few hundred farms affected? If that is the case, why bother with the change at all for the tiny tax amount raised?

If Clarkson and Farage are both on your side, you’re definitely wrong.

Farmers overwhelmingly voted for Brexit. Brexit was pushed by those wanting to avoid EU's crackdown on tax avoidance and tax havens. Farmers should be blaming them now (Dyson and etc), not Labour.

Completely ignoring the fact that inheritance tax is utterly immoral anyway.

so basically, the rich are lying to the less educated to rile them up to help themselves. Exactly what they did for Brexit

I think inheritance tax should be abolished - why should tax be paid on money that has already been heavily taxed in the first place ?!!

Inheritance tax should not exist at all. Its absurd. The state has no right to what is yours.

His argument struggles when he says it's 'taxing them the same as everyone else'. Farmers need the land to work on. So if they pass it to their children, they need that land which is worth £millions.

I have been saying ever since it’s been introduced - good Financial Planning & Estate Planning should help avoid IHT completely or significantly reduce it for the beneficiaries

Farmers on the whole are asset rich but cash poor so the only way they would be able to pay is to sell the land which will take it out of food production

Around 70% of UK produce comes from farms worth more than £3M, produce from around 8000 farms. Farmers are notoriously asset rich and cash poor. This’ll probably force them to sell up and just be cash rich but without being able to farm. They are basically performing a public service with what they make currently

Problem is that those assets are strategically important for the nation, but the farms themselves aren't particularly profitable. More tax = more expensive food

he's talking about wealthy people buying farm land, farmers are asset rich, when they die the pass it down, their children pay 20% of let's say 2 million, they pay 400,00 in tax, they have to sell

So it's not really going to raise a lot of money for the government then? Why have the battle - reverse the decision.

His analysis is fundamentally flawed. He contrasts number of estates affected in one tax year and not the entire cohort of impacted estates.
