@hannagetshired: A direct quote from a recruiter who DM’d me: “I’ve sat in on many interviews where the manager reviews resumes with a fine tooth comb asking about each role why exactly they left why they’re in the job market now” Job hopping can be an amazing way to increase your earnings and climb the ladder. Job hopping haphazardly though can be a quick way to hurt your candidacy for future opportunities. #jophopping #findanewjob #quitmyjob #careeradvice #jobsearchadvice #jobhopper #careertok

Job hopping is good to increase your pay but not your security or growth. In my experience

Strategic job hopping can boost your career, but having clear, compelling reasons for each move is essential. Does your resume tell a cohesive story?

I've had 3 jobs since March '23, each one paying significantly more than the last. No one cared how long I was in a previous role. This market is so cooked now with mass layoffs every other day.

I had three jobs in a 1.5 year span and was worried it would impact me but it hasn’t so far, I’m glad I did what was best for me and not for what story I want my resume to tell

Totally agree. Especially these days. Maybe in 2020-2022 it was easy but in this market it’s best to stay put and only move when it makes sense and doesn’t make you look like you switch every so oft

I feel like 3 years is good. However, if you’re getting promoted then I’ll reduce it to 2.5 years at a time. So there’s a chance to be there 3 years or 10-15 years.

My rule is that after 2 or 3 yrs of if I am not getting promoted or a significant raise I change jobs but I always make sure I have make a solid impact before I leave.

When I switched careers I stayed in my first job for 6 years and the second for 3. I didn’t leave until I gained enough experience especially job 1. Now I’m ok with leaving after 2 years if I want.

You can do it a few times but it’s best to stay at same company and advance in different roles. You have to be strategic with your decisions and not jump around blindly.

I think after months of applying to jobs without any results I'm too scared to do the whole job hopping thing 😂

Like I feel like unless needed, job hopping should be paused right now. Usually the first people laid off are the newest ones and who knows what 2025 will bring

I feel like 3 years is a solid generalization. 1-1.5 years needed to see a full cycle of the role. Next 1.5-2 plenty new should come up. If you’re stagnating at that moment start looking.

As someone who hires, I definitely look for people who spend time at a company rather than hop around

I stuck it out at my last company, doubled my earnings after waiting for the promotion I wanted for a year and a half, got laid off and now making even more at a new place so it worked out so far

in this market u def gotta be more careful. I usually do leave after 2 yrs tho if either I strongly dislike the job or there are 0 signs of growth/promotion/raise. I just cant stay stagnant longer

I work one 1-2 year research grant contracts. How do I avoid looking like a job hopping in my resume? My first job after college was terrible so I quit <1yr in which doesn’t help

So basically if I can drive results in impact in 2 years then I can job hop… so time doesn’t matter it’s yours results you produce so I can leave an employer in 2-3 years to go find a better job

I understand the notion of job hopping for sure, but as someone in the talent space, some hiring managers won’t consider candidates who have job hopped every 1-2 years.
