I've had 3 jobs since March '23, each one paying significantly more than the last. No one cared how long I was in a previous role. This market is so cooked now with mass layoffs every other day.

Totally agree. Especially these days. Maybe in 2020-2022 it was easy but in this market it’s best to stay put and only move when it makes sense and doesn’t make you look like you switch every so oft

I feel like 3 years is good. However, if you’re getting promoted then I’ll reduce it to 2.5 years at a time. So there’s a chance to be there 3 years or 10-15 years.

My rule is that after 2 or 3 yrs of if I am not getting promoted or a significant raise I change jobs but I always make sure I have make a solid impact before I leave.

When I switched careers I stayed in my first job for 6 years and the second for 3. I didn’t leave until I gained enough experience especially job 1. Now I’m ok with leaving after 2 years if I want.

You can do it a few times but it’s best to stay at same company and advance in different roles. You have to be strategic with your decisions and not jump around blindly.

Like I feel like unless needed, job hopping should be paused right now. Usually the first people laid off are the newest ones and who knows what 2025 will bring

I feel like 3 years is a solid generalization. 1-1.5 years needed to see a full cycle of the role. Next 1.5-2 plenty new should come up. If you’re stagnating at that moment start looking.

I stuck it out at my last company, doubled my earnings after waiting for the promotion I wanted for a year and a half, got laid off and now making even more at a new place so it worked out so far

in this market u def gotta be more careful. I usually do leave after 2 yrs tho if either I strongly dislike the job or there are 0 signs of growth/promotion/raise. I just cant stay stagnant longer

So basically if I can drive results in impact in 2 years then I can job hop… so time doesn’t matter it’s yours results you produce so I can leave an employer in 2-3 years to go find a better job

I understand the notion of job hopping for sure, but as someone in the talent space, some hiring managers won’t consider candidates who have job hopped every 1-2 years.
