Why didn’t you just replace it and add hundred percent clear silicone to seal it. Using putty as a hack.

everyone says caulking but you can't leak test with caulking til it dries. plumbers puddy all the way

If you have easy access to the underside. I would had installed it differently instead of compromising the putty. It can rip and thin out. Good luck
