I wrote my MBA thesis on the Sideways effect of Pinot planting, production and sales. Merlot was actually a perfect cautionary tale and grower/producers kept pinot under control, mostly.

Merlot isn’t that bad actually. It’s more fruity. If you prefer fruity wine Merlot is better. Pinot is more delicate.
