@ilia.li.cos: More details in caption! I’ve been getting tons of questions about the techniques and materials I use to do gold detailing on fabric, so I thought I’d make a video on my favorite methods these days! This is a little bit different from what I usually share, so please let me know if you like it and it’s helpful! For my silk painting I mainly use pebeo water based gutta and jacquard permanent water based resist. These are both applied directly on dry fabric. For silk painting, the fabric should be stretched on a frame so that the gutta/resist can permeate all the way through to properly stop dye flow (See my 2 part silk painting tutorial for more details about the painting itself). After application, the gutta/resist should be allowed to dry and then heat set using an iron, I do 5 min at the highest temperature appropriate for the fabric. Gutta/resist do have a steeper learning curve to control the thickness of the line and use enough pressure for the gutta/resist to go all the way through the fabric. I also like using gutta/resist to do gold linework even when I’m not silk painting since they give very clean lines and minimally stiffen the fabric. In terms of when I use pebeo’s gutta vs jacquaed’s resist, it really boils down to factors like available colors. But lately I do prefer that you can easily dilute jacquard’s resist with water to better permeate thick/tightly woven fabrics. Please note that real gutta requires safety equipment! I use water based because it is less toxic, with the trade off that it’s a bit less effective at preventing dye flow. When I’m not silk painting and working with a darker fabric, I like using posca metallic gold marker, which doesn’t require any drying and is pretty mess-free since it only needs to be heat set. I iron 5min on the highest setting appropriate for the fabric. All of these can be hand washed in cold water after heat setting. #cosplaywip #cosmaker #silkpainting #cosplaytutorial #fabricpainting #textileart

Wooowwe these are so beautiful! The first product is so cool! Have you ever used it with embroidery? Either embroidering on the lines after painting or using it on top of embroidered lines b4 paint?

Is there something one could use that doesn’t leave a raised line?

I’ve never seen this and it’s so cool! Your work is so beautiful. Does the paint mess up your iron at all? Or whenever you heat set stuff does it stain your iron?
