We actually don’t know where the meaning of akubra came from. Yes it is an indigenous word but it doesn’t have any meaning.

I feel like the Akubra, yes Australian isn’t really country. Same as RM’s. Myself and a lot of my mates tend to lean to US/mexico for hats and boots. (No not ariat)

Someone threw one out at our local tip, still good, grabbed it, cost me $80 to be cleaned and reshaped, mines “The Territory” model, love it.

So living in Mansfield, it’s a big thing to get your first hat. Usually your dad will buy you one at the ‘mountain cattlemen’s get together’ and then kids gather cattle ear tags from every get together and attach to their hat.
