How to create a Cinematic Timelapse 📷 Step 1 Location scout Decide where you want to photograph your timelapse. I recommend choosing a location that you know will have some form of movement. This could include clouds, light and shadows or even people. You can also choose to include a foreground element in your composition to add more depth. Step 2 Equipment You'll need your camera, a tripod and most importantly, an intervalometer. Some cameras have a built-in intervalometer or you may need to plug in an external one. If you have a gimbal such as the DJI RS2, this has a built-in timelapse mode which you can use as well. Step 3 Setting up your timelapse Once you've got your camera in place and your composition set It's time to dial in your settings Make sure to turn off any image stabilisation and switch to manual focus. You can use a timelapse calculator to work out how long you need to shoot for and what to set your interval. I like using this one by Photopills. For cinematic motion in your timelapse, the shutter speed should be 1/2 of what your interval time is. As an example, if your interval between shots is 1 minute, your shutter speed should be 30 seconds. You can compensate for your exposure by using a neutral density filter. For this example, I used a 1-second shutter with a 2-second interval. My aperture was f8 and my ISO was 50. Check your focus by using magnify option. Now you're ready to start your timelapse All you have to do now is sit back and wait. #Timelapse #Cinematic #Cinematography #Gimbal #Timelapsephotography
