💊 Adenosine is a drug commonly used in the ER to convert SVT into NSR. 🫀Once a patient comes in with symptoms of SVT such as palpitations, shortness of breath, and lightheadedness. You immediately want to get an STAT EKG on them to confirm the rhythm. Once you know it is SVT, you want to get the patient to a room, grab the portable monitor and put the patient on the pads. 🫀Start an IV, the higher the better and draw labs. Pressure bag a bag of NS into the patient and prepare the adenosine if other methods have failed. 🫀Make sure before you give a patient adenosine the MD is present prior to pushing the adenosine and you are recording on the portable monitor to document the rhythm change. Adenosine must be pushed fast and works extremely fast as the half life in the blood is less than 10 seconds. The typically amount given is in doses of 6 mg -12 mg, and sometimes more than one dose is needed to convert a patients rhythm. Once the adenosine is pushed, you want to raise the patients arm. 🫀The patient will feel symptomatic such as chest discomfort and lightheadedness immediately after the adenosine is given with the goal of the rhythm converting back to sinus rhythm. ❤️ Save for yourself & tag & share for others 🗣 Comment any other helpful tips below! #rnnewgrads #nurseresidency #rnresidency #registerednurse #nurse #rn #nursingschool #nursingstudent #rnstudent #studentnurse #futurenurse #nursesinspirenurses #futurenurse #nursetobe #newnurse #nursecareer #newnursetips #nursementor #nurseproud #nurselife #nursetalk #nursegrind #nursesofinstagram #healthcare
