In Japan, the numbers for your address cannot be used to logically locate a building like in America. The only way is to use GPS. I predict the same will happen with Kanji if not already.

I’m Japanese and when I write ‘watashi’, I use hiragana all the time because it gives you a softer impression🩷

It's fascinating how some of this acts as code switching, like how you'd say "all right" in a formal setting but "a'ight" with someone from your community.

one of my favorites exemples is Marina from Splatoon using Katakana because she's not a native speaker and recently learned the language ! it's to show that she has an accent !

Is there a reason why train station names use ノ instead of の? Like 海の中道 and 海ノ中道駅

iirc when my JP classmates wrote scientific articles, the plant scientific name was in romaji and the common name had to be in katakana. It's fascinating how they use language.

in Splatoon the language of the octarians (the enemies to the inklings) is represented by them speaking in katakana as opposed to the inklings who speak in regular japanese

Hearing you talking about this reminds me of the seeding of English lyrics in Japanese popular song. Miku Kobato of bandmaid is particularly adept at this for a variety of non arbitrary motives.

thanks for the video. My Japanese teacher said many younger people are avoiding using 。to end sentences - it gives a bossy image. have you come across this?

while watching I thought of changing script as a means to personalize something that one often says, like a catch phrase. not that it's something I've observed, but something I can imagine happens

you could compare using the 'wrong' script for play/humour to in English how we might say things deliberately wrong as a joke, right? (eg "Micheal wave" or "bone apple teeth" phenomena)
