also if you were to cut it out, you'd need to run tack strip all the way around the legs.

I would have cut the base board off though and not have it sit on top like that I'm sure there's a reason why but I don't like it. Just my opinion

A friend owns a flooring company. He says put it on top of the carpet. They can cut it out if it ever needs to be changed.
