The Ukrainian Air Force and Zelensky say that Russia used a conventionally armed ICBM on the city of Dnipro. If true, this would be the first time ever that an ICBM has been used. Reports say that it used a MIRV payload, which means the warhead split into several upon reentry. The usage of that would also be a first. While an ICBM usually means nuclear weapon, just to state it very intentionally - it was not nuclear armed. Western officials say they disagree that it was an ICBM and that it was just a ballistic missile. If it was an ICBM, some say it’s hard to view it as anything but a massive escalation. Others say it’s akin to a test shot. We’ll know more as the Pentagon wakes up.
