I beg to differ sir. The Irish Red &White Setter, the original Irish Setter, is more versatile. He hunts, points/sets and works game birds. In Europe they teach them to retrieve also

Do you think your lab could air scent a bird stuck in or on top of a hedge, as my 's did last week, one climbed the tree inside the hedge to dislodge it then cross and climbed the next to pick it.

I humbly disagree. Of course it depends on the purpose of the dog. However when you factor in everything, one simply can not beat the German Shepard. That, my friend, is an impossibility.
