Had exactly this problem with rad valve. Used WD Silicon spray but wouldn't recommend hitting it a a hammer. Just a decent amount of downward pressure a few times is enough to loosen it up

use a pair of grips or pliers to work it up. and down. muck safer and waste ot time with WD as doesn't penetrate to where it's sticking.🙂
