@brittanydparker: So many other examples. But this was just the straw that broke the sad camels back #storytime #familytime #boundaries #therapy #millennial #millennialsoftiktok
A psychiatrist treating their own family like this? I’m… speechless. I’m so sorry.

I had a therapist say to me once “would you go to a hardware store looking for milk? No, you wouldn’t. Going to your parents looking for something they are incapable of giving is the same thing.

Your niece and nephew are going to see your absence as permission to choose themselves in a family that will never teach them that. Thank you for doing this for them and you ♥️

How a therapist and attorney even votes that way is a mystery to me.

For nephews and nieces, send then birthday and holiday gifts and cards, tell them that you love them. If they are old enough to text, text them just to say I love you. They might need you some day 💓

My therapist recommended the book "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents" by Lindsay C. Gibson. It was a game changer.

My therapist told me “you can love your family but you don’t have to like them” and that has helped me so much not to feel guilty about the boundaries I have set.

I'm sorry. I believe in the long run this will help your mental health to break away from that negativity. You don't have to suck it up, crying is NOT negative. 🫂

My therapist mother did EXACTLY the same thing. I cut ties last week. She’s 84 and it’s heartbreaking but necessary.

You told them what you needed and they dismissed your feelings. You have every right to stop letting them make you feel less. It is so hard to do but very important and valid.

In my experience, family seems to think they should be exempt from “being hurtful”. “Oh we’re family. It’s different”. No. It’s worse. Family should not be the ones who hurt or cause hurt. 1/
