Great idea to force a farming family to sell 20% of their farms when margins are so small. You have this wrong my friend. Your facts are very different to my facts which actually mean they are beliefs

I think they got off lightly. They should pay the same level of inheritance tax that other people pay.

I can't fully get behind it coz of Clarkson. He's only in it for his own gains. Couldn't care about the farmers

Land owners get venerated like war veterans for essentially inheriting value, while the majority of ppl, also holding up society, have nothing.

They can also put the farm into a trust. Their parents probably had to do the same because inheritance tax was charged on agricultural land (anything more than £100K) pre 1992.

Gifting a farm would require the gifter to receive zero benefits form the land or property for the seven years. That would be quite impractical in a business that usually relies on family labour.

historically farmers have always been upset. the main issue -like most- that farming in uk struggles to be profitable in new age - esp against imports.

1/4 Farmers tend to be rich in land but cash poor. Their income is extremely limited and difficult these days. They generally dont have hundreds of thousands of pounds just sitting around.

Think you’ll find it’s more than a couple of hundred affected. £3m doesn’t go that far with land at £20k/acre round me

Just wait for fiscal drag in ten years time, remember stamp duty just a mansion tax that will only affect a few (when introduced). How many pay it now.

You’re clearly not a farmer so your opinion is invalid and wholly incorrect. Your contempt and distain for the people that produce the food you need to live is disgraceful
