1/4 Farmers tend to be rich in land but cash poor. Their income is extremely limited and difficult these days. They generally dont have hundreds of thousands of pounds just sitting around.

historically farmers have always been upset. the main issue -like most- that farming in uk struggles to be profitable in new age - esp against imports.

They can also put the farm into a trust. Their parents probably had to do the same because inheritance tax was charged on agricultural land (anything more than £100K) pre 1992.

Being asset-rich is still rich. Assets can be sold, leveraged, or passed on. Pretending otherwise is a tone-deaf way to ignore the privilege and financial power that comes with such wealth.

Farmers are not the enemy, tax dodging millionaires buying up agricultural land are. We have lost 6300 producers since 2017, 30% of farms made no profit last year, 1 in 6 > £100k. 60% food security.

I personally don’t care if Farmers get a Tax privilege, war is brewing in Europe, we just saw Covid & supply chain issues from Europe, we have lost 6300 producers since 2021. Food security is at 60%.
