@seannalewanyj: "It takes X amount of cardio to burn off food item Y". These types of videos are a double-edged sword. On the one hand they can be a helpful reminder of how fast and easy it is to consume a given number of calories versus trying to actively expend that same amount. While cardio can be useful as a supplemental fat loss tool, it won't have as large of an impact on total energy expenditure as most people think, and controlling calorie intake will be by far the most important factor when it comes to getting leaner. On the other hand, these clips can be very misleading since they give the impression that if you do indulge in a certain food, you now need to perform additional exercise in order to "undo the damage". In reality, net fat loss or fat gain will ultimately be determined by total calories consumed versus total calories burned, and exercise itself only makes up a relatively small percentage of your total daily expenditure. The majority comes from basal metabolic rate (the energy required for basic life sustaining functions like breathing, circulation and temperature regulation) and non-exercise activity thermogenesis (unplanned daily movement such as walking, standing and fidgeting). Another portion goes to the thermic effect of food (calories burned through digestion) and then the rest to intentional exercise like cardio and weight training. So as long as your total calories burned from a combination of all those factors is equal to (or greater than) the total calories you consume, eating a chocolate bar (or whatever else) won't directly lead to fat gain and you don't need to perform any additional exercise to burn it off. You're still expending the same amount of energy (or more) than you're consuming overall, and so you'll either maintain your existing fat mass or continue to lose it regardless of whether you go jump on the stairstepper afterwards or not. #Fitness #gym #workout #cardio #fatloss

More like: "moderate your desserts consumption" than "you gotta burn every dessert you eat"
