The biggest thing is that the image looks just like a painted face would, whereas, if it were actually wrapped around him then the face’s width would be distorted to be super wide. Try it.

It’s also the second version. Originally it was described as being clearly painted…..until the medici’s hooked up with DaVinci, and then suddenly it appears very very different, and far more plausible
