Netflix’s Squid Game 2 is facing backlash after it was reported that a male actor will be playing a transgender woman. Park Sung-hoon, who is widely known for his work in various K-Dramas, is set to play Hyun-ju, a trans woman who enters the deadly Squid Game in an attempt to raise money for her gender-affirming surgery. In a Meet the Cast video posted by Netflix on Thursday 5 December, the actor said that Hyun-ju is a former special forces soldier who “breaks down stereotypes and shines as an inspiring character” in the show.
