Start horizontal/flat at your scalp (face the curl-brush pointed tipped end or the extension cord to the camera) and move down then make a J shape outwards. That is more objectively “curling out”

Use it like you would a regular brush as if you were just brushing your hair and flip the ends. You’re trying to curl it like you would with a curling iron which is going to cause it to flip under
