On September 24, 2022 I was driving the backroads from solo camping on the Mississippi. I happened to spot the crane in action tearing down the back end of the house. Looking like a mess, I pulled over on the side of the road and nervously made myself down the driveway to the two people watching from afar. I knew this was an odd ask, but I was already on the verge of heartbreak seeing her being demolished, I asked them if I could stand by and take pictures. They kindly obliged and told me the house had just turned 151 years old built by their great great grandfather. Unfortunately the house had been vacant since the early 00’s and had a pipe burst leaving the home past the point of return of saving. I quickly made my way back to my car, knowing I was about to get too emotional for two strangers I had just met. Then I sat there for what seemed like an hour, crying on the side of the road, watching it slowly chip away at her. I couldn’t help but torture myself with the thought of how sad she must’ve been to have finally received the attention she needed so long ago, too late. Finally it happened, she fell. I had to drive away before the brother and sister duo could see the freak crying in her jeep over THEIR family house. Later that night, the memories section came into view when I was going through my gallery. Exactly a year ago that exact day, I met this old gal for the first time. Early fall, standing proud - not knowing what fate had planned. I’m so glad I got to see her once before, and then be a familiar face when she left. #oldhouse #abandoned #ethelcain #midwest #architecture #fyp
