@canadiancarpenter: Lever your brace. Apparently bracing in certain ways is a touchy subject. Well there’s many ways to do it with the least amount of effort and here is another one. Nail a scrap to your brace and to the bottom plate or simply into the floor if it doesn’t have to go far and moves easily. Then simply push or pull. If ya need a little more leverage you can step inside the wall stud cavity and let a stud brace you more which easier to hold plumb.
