Saturday, May 18, 2024, at approximately 8:17 a.m., I was traveling southbound on United States Highway 165 (US-165) near Montrose, when I overheard the Ashley County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch advise that a police officer with the Sterlington Police Department was attempting to stop a vehicle, which was actively fleeing and traveling northbound on US-165 toward the Arkansas/Louisiana State lines. I advised Troop-F Dispatch regarding the radio traffic from the Ashley County Sheriff’s Office and began traveling southbound toward the state line. Shortly after arriving in Wilmot (8:29 a.m.), I observed the suspect
vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. I attempted to slow the vehicle down by pulling out ahead of it in the northbound traffic lane but was unsuccessful. The suspect traveled around me and continued traveling northbound on US-165
at a high rate of speed. As the suspect vehicle traveled northbound on US-165, the suspect began traveling into the opposing lane of traffic, forcing
approaching motorists off the roadway. As we continued traveling northbound on US-165, I continued to relay relevant information to Troop-F Dispatch. We traveled for approximately 9.7 miles, before I finally had no oncoming traffic and an
appropriate location to perform a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI). The TVI was successful and caused the suspect vehicle to rotate clockwise before leaving the roadway and overturning several times. After the suspect vehicle came to rest on its passenger side, me and other officers proceeded with high-risk traffic stop procedures and ordered the driver out of the vehicle. We were able to arrest the suspect, who was later identified as Marquise Mason, without further incident. Mr. Mason was transported to the Ashley County Medical Center as a precaution for a medical evaluation; Deputy Jared Moffett with the Ashely County Sheriff’s Office followed the EMS unit to the hospital. After being released from the hospital, Mr.
Mason was transported to the Ashley County Detention Center, where he was turned over to jail staff. Mr. Mason was charged with the following offenses: Fleeing Aggravated Assault Reckless Driving Speeding
Driving Left of Center Suspended Driver License and No Insurance. #lrhn #fyp #policepursuit #highspeedchase
