If you’re not a music nerd and listen to music loudly, boost the bass, lower the mids, and slightly raise the high end. Like a U shape but don’t raise the high freqs as much

No. You SHOULD definetly use EQ. Diferent settings for each and every pair of speakers or headphones that you use. EQ is there to help you tune the speaker, not to alter the song.

well I'm a producer as well and I use a system wide eq on my phone bc I know the flaws of my headphones and correct them

Ok but each pair of headphones has a different sound signature so songs will sound different then what the artist intended.

MUSIC PREFERENCES ARE DIFFERENT FOT EVERYONE. so yes, change the eq to your liking!!!! it can heavily improve the sound quality of your headphones!!
