Your all over it circular are flow you could open them a little in all rooms vacuumed the air thru and could leave open in light rain hence the old school bullnose awnings aswell

it was before toilets were a thing and really tall men needed to pee, they could get some fresh air at the same time keep his chest warm and peeing

They needed to allow air in from the kero lamps they would just crack the top and let the thick smell out. Also that’s why we have plaster roses… after about 25 years they didn’t need it as much but it was the way it was done by then

The painter here , in the day no air conditioning, it’s was a vent for circulation, just like the bird board was a vent for the roof space just like the old gable
