If you fawn at work, you’re probably really good at your job. You anticipate needs 🧠, overdeliver 📈, volunteer for the things no one else wants to do 🙋‍♀️, and maybe even feel secretly proud of how much you can hold. You’re the team player. The “rock.” The one who’s always on it. And capitalism eats. that. up. 🍽️💼 But the long-term cost? It can look like: 💀 Getting home from work and immediately dissociating on the couch 🫠 Spending weekends horizontal with “mystery fatigue” 🩺 Autoimmune flare-ups or gut stuff that no one can explain 🫃🏼 That sinking feeling when someone asks “Who can take this on?” and your mouth says yes before your body can say please god no And I’m not here to shame the fawning. Sometimes it’s very strategic. You fawn to keep your job, keep the peace, pay the bills. That’s real. That’s survival. But part of the work is asking: Where can I give less? Where can I not be the hero? Where can I shut the fuck up when the team lead says “any volunteers?” Where can I actually let my body lead instead of the performance? That’s what we do in SHED—my six-month slow somatic group for people who are done building their lives (and careers) on top of a trauma response. We meet twice a month on Zoom, with integration pods, bonus somatic practices, and community that won’t side-eye you when you say “I’m exhausted from pretending to be chill for 40 hours a week.” 🧃SHED starts Aug 27. 🧠It’s for high-functioning, self-aware folks who know they fawn—and are ready to actually do something with it.
