Is the water heating up around the vapor layer? if not then the heat explosion has got to be insane after it fails

So how does quenching work for metalwork, is the metal not getting touched by the oil/water or is not getting heated enough?

Francisco R. ☭ :
what effect does that have on buoyant force and/or surface tension? does the hotter sphere sink faster with less resistance? if dropped from a height, is the force of the impact on the water surface gone because it evaporates before contact?

What happens if you heat the ball and cool the rod will it make like a bubble around the steam and force like air bubbles upward?
