Not knowing what you're doing makes you better. Hear me out, When I started working with leather, I didn't study it, I didn't have a mentor, I wasn't deep into YouTube learning from so-called pros. I was just making stuff and looking at what worked and what didn't work. The standard practice when stitching is to finish your stitch and then go back a couple of stitches, then burn the ends so they don't come back out. With fabric, they don't even burn the thread; it just gets cut off and they hope for the best. I offered a lifetime warranty from day 1, and there was no way that I was going to have my stitches unravel. If I had been formally taught, I probably would have just trusted in the teacher and followed the standard practice. Since I was just figuring it out, I had to come up with something that would convince me that it was ready to stand strong for decades. I tried a few different options and finally settled on burying a box knot in the last hole then back stitching two more holes while burying a box knot in each one of them. By not having an idea of what I was doing, I had to be analytical and critical of my own work to find something that works. In the end, I found something far better than the industry standard. More and more people are realizing that formal education isn't the way to go, I love that. Eff around and find out applies to learning just as much as talking shht.
