@traveltomtom: Officially 100% of the people in Maldives are Muslim! Islam is the state religion of the country by constitution. More than 10,000 people can pray together at the King Salman Mosque in Male, the biggest mosque in Maldives. The mosque was inaugurated in April 2022 and named after King Salman of Saudi Arabia, who funded this key landmark in Male. The mosque features a blend of modern Islamic architecture with traditional Maldivian influences. It resembles a bedouin tent and what makes this mosque so special is that it does not have any domes. The five minarest symbolize the 5 pillars of Islam. There are more facilities in the mosque such as: classrooms for religious education and Quranic studies, conference halls to host events and lectures and a library.
