Yesterday was R U OK Day in Australia. I wanted to check in and ask, are you okay? It is OK not to be OK, but please reach out to someone if you need support. Know that you are not alone, and there is a lot of support available. I am OK, but I put in a lot of work on my mental health to ensure that I am. I have certainly gone through many stages in my life where I was not OK, and had near constant thoughts of self-harm in my teens and up until my mid 20's. Things make a lot more sense now I have been diagnosed with ADHD. I now have the tools to help manage with psychological and psychiatric support as well as a great support system. Even though I have all of this, there are still some f%&king awful days where I feel like I am unable to breathe because of how overwhelming my anxiety can be, and still trying to figure out how/ where I fit in. Those bad days can be at a time where work stress has been building for a while, had a challenging interaction with someone or on a boat in Belize. It is helpful to me to remember that it is a bad day and not a bad life. I am sharing to hopefully decrease some of the stigma that is around mental health. Mental health is part of your health, and impacts everyone regardless of location, age, situation in life or how much money you have (or don't have).
