even if you sign non-compete there's ways around it. some people will formally ask for approval to go to a competitor, in other circumstances you can actually accept a lower role in any competitor org

Also, make sure you check if you’re a non-exempt employee, so you get paid OT! They told me I would get OT my contract said I was exempt and they said “oh we made a mistake”

Employment standards act in ontario explicitly prohibits non compete agreements. very few exceptions like an owner selling their business, they can't work for a competing company or an executive.
