Hello helou #gym #GymTok
SOIL STEP BY STEP HERE 👇 1. TESTS. We need to understand what your current soil is doing! Your state’s agricultural extension school (USU in Utah) will offer mail-in soil tests. That’s step one! Beyond that, you want to analyze your soil’s texture (jar test & ribbon test) and drainage rate (percolation test). I will do videos on each of these but in the meantime, you will find tutorials for each on YouTube! 2. PLAN. Your soil test results will tell you if there are any glaring nutrient deficiencies or other problems like high salinity. I can’t give a one size fits all recommendation, but identifying and addressing the most dire problems is priority here. What you DON’T need to do is follow recommendations for applying synthetic NPK fertilizers because our goal is to create a healthy, living soil sponge for NATIVE plants to thrive in, not meet the nutritional needs of crops for one growing season. Organic compost can do a lot of legwork for you if needed. 3. TEXTURE. If your soil is highly compacted, we can integrate Organic matter like leaves, compost and humanes (humic acids) for soil texture! 4. NUTRIENTS: Like I said, Organic compost can do most of the heavy lifting here—and you don’t necessarily need very much of it if you’re growing native plants, which are much better adapted to your native soil. You can add trace minerals like Azomite to improve a plant’s ability for nutrient uptake instead of over fertilizing! 5. MOISTURE RETENTION: Biochar is an amazing product to help your soil hold on to more water (as well as nutrients and beneficial fungi) for longer! You can mulch heavily with wood chips for additional moisture retention as well! #sustainablelandscapedesigner #sustainablelandscaping #ecofriendly #soilhealth
