@thedenisepotter: I completely disagree with admitting you are ‘powerless’ to the grasp alcohol holds. . I said what I said. This outdated approach leads to even more negative self talk, so why kick yourself while down? Your first hour, day, week .. of sobriety is a cluster fk of crying, screaming, self loathing, & regret. 😳Or if you hit rock bottom like I did, you can add in 'disappearing from the face of the planet' to that list ... 🤦♀️ To tell yourself that you are powerless while going through possibly the most difficult phase of your life, is a very dangerous approach. One that has led to relapsing .. I speak from experience. This is one of the reasons why AA was not for me. I have a hard time even uttering the words ‘powerless’ because I have been through some sh!t !!💯 I know I am not alone in that last statement. It has never sat well with me to say such a negative thing about myself. . The worst thing you can do when you’re feeling sad or depressed is not acknowledge your POWER in that moment to make a CHANGE. 💪 This is why I help my clients approach sobriety leading with self compassion & realizing how much power words actually have in our daily life. . Once you create a life you love, you will never want to numb it again!💜 The only way to get to that mentality is through empowering yourself & truly acknowledging what a badass you really are! .
