@its.angiechen: I get asked all the time about the difference btwn my two experiences, but it is def not an apples to apples comparison. Here are some of the non-technical differences. as always these are specific to MY PERSONAL experiences and not meant to generalize every single role in finance vs. marketing thnx for listening :) Investment Banking: 👩💻Extremely structured workflows and hierarchy with clear roles on deal teams (analyst, associate, VP, etc.) 👩💻Tasks driven by MD’s directives—my focus was on fast execution (pitch decks, models) 👩💻Cross-functional to an extent (worked with M&A, leveraged finance, etc.), but mostly within banking teams 👩💻Fast-paced with frequent fire drills and last-minute requests, on call on weekends Marketing: 📊Extremely cross-functional—collaborate with product teams, creative teams, revenue teams, engineering, agencies, etc. 📊No one-size-fits-all workflows; each project has room for creative thinking 📊More room to pitch ideas and expand beyond defined responsibilities 📊Turnaround times are steadier but still dynamic Biggest Difference: Banking is super high speed high pressure within a set structure, while marketing thrives on adaptability, creativity, and collaboration (SO MANY MEETINGS). Both roles challenge me in unique ways :) #careeradvice #careerpivots #careerswitch #corporatelife #corporateamerica #corporatejobs #nyc #finance #marketing #investmentbanking #corporategirl #jobhunting
