@pinknews: Who is the first out LGBTQ+ person in Donald Trump’s new cabinet? 62 year old billionaire investment manager Scott Bessent has been chosen as the new Treasury Secretary by the incoming US president Donald Trump. If confirmed by the US Senate, he would not only be the first out LGBTQ+ person to have had that role, he will be the first gay Senate-confirmed cabinet member in a Republican administration. Bessent, who manages the macro hedge fund Key Sq lives in South Carolina with his husband, John Freeman, a former prosecuting attorney in New York City. They have two children together. In 2015, he told the Yale Alumni Magazine: “If you had told me in 1984, when we graduated, and people were dying of AIDS, that 30 years later I’d be legally married and we would have two children via surrogacy, I wouldn’t have believed you.” Bessent has said that he always had a desire to serve his country, but in the 1980s his sexuality prevented him from joining the US Naval Academy, and also from joining the State Department after graduating from Yale.
