Replying to @Ellington Hill How did I teach Enzo to love swimming? READ ⬇️ The first two videos where l'm in the white bathing suit are from his first day ever swimming! He was already confident enough to jump off the float into the pool from day 1 of swimming when he was just 6 months old. I think some of his courage comes from his trust in me. That's what gave him the confidence to go for it in the first place! I never forced him into the pool (aside from having him test the waters next to me on the top step on his first day swimming... but as you can see he went right in!). I just encouraged him and played with him in the pool with some of his favorite floating toys. He had a natural curiosity and interest in the water which certainly helped! He quickly learned that the pool is a very fun place to be! If you were to ask me how to get your dog to love swimming, here's the advice I would give: 1) Make sure your dog trusts you outside of the pool. Build your bond to be as strong as possible before introducing to the pool! 2) Introduce them to the top step in the pool and reinforce with high value treats. (Enzo's fav high value treats are freeze dried chicken treats) 3) Once they are comfortable on the top step and have learned how to get out of the pool, introduce some fun floating pool toys. Be sure to be in the water with them to make sure they're comfortable and safe. They may also need guidance swimming back to the step to get out. Never force them to swim and always encourage!
