National Security Council spokesman John Kirby on Thursday said Russia in recent days has used ballistic missiles in Ukraine that were supplied by North Korea, calling it “a significant and concerning escalation” in Pyongyang’s support for Moscow. Mr. Kirby said the U.S. assessed that one of those missiles was used during a Dec. 30 strike in Ukraine and multiple others were used in strikes on Tuesday. “We expect Russia and North Korea to learn from these launches, and we anticipate that Russia will use additional North Korean missiles to target Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and to kill innocent Ukrainian civilians,” he said. The White House has been warning for months about the growing ties between Russia and North Korea as the war in Ukraine nears the two-year mark. North Korea is seeking in return from Russia fighter aircraft, surface-to-air missiles, armored vehicles, ballistic missile production equipment and other advanced technologies. Russia is also hoping to acquire close-range ballistic missiles from Iran, according to the White House. “At this time, we do not believe that Iran has delivered close-range ballistic missiles to Russia,” Mr. Kirby said. “However, the United States is concerned that Russian negotiations to acquire close-range ballistic missiles from Iran are actively advancing.” The U.S. has now run out of funding to provide additional miliary assistance to Ukraine and Mr. Kirby called on Congress quickly approve more aid. #johnkirby #whitehouse #russia #northkorea #ukraine #iran #ukrainewar #cspan
