Many birds will keep their nails worn down naturally, but when they don’t you may need to trim them. This is how I trim my little bird’s nails. Mika is probably the best at demonstrating this process because he is so trusting. If your bird is not as comfortable being handled, you may need to use a towel or have your vet do it for you. Just like with any other behavior, I use lots of positive reinforcement (aka treats) after a nail trim. So, while the bird may not necessarily enjoy this process, they are basically indifferent towards it.
