[2] My comment about Cioran is off - he thinks it's better to never have been born than to have lived. [3] My ""summary"" of Hegel is clearly hyperbolic, but gets at a core Hegelian point - Hegel thinks he has finalized philosophy and, like his state, has thereby finalized history itself, understood as "progress in the consciousness of freedom." Hegel died in 1831, thus my usage of the year 1830 as an even number approximating his death. [4] My summary of Arendt is also lacking - she thinks politics overcomes our differences, but that this must go on forever. I compress her account of political process overcoming difference into a hypostasis which is "never" overcome. [5] Run free with supervision in clinics, for psychically liberatory ends.
