@cbsnews: A Canadian official blasted President-elect Donald Trump's threat to impose sweeping tariffs and called Trump's comparison of Canada to Mexico “the most insulting thing I’ve ever heard.” "It’s like a family member stabbing you right in the heart," Ontario Premier Doug Ford, the leader of the country's most populous province, said this week. Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on products from Canada, Mexico and China as soon as he takes office in January as part of efforts to crack down on illegal immigration and drugs. He said he would impose a 25% tax on all products entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico as one of his first executive orders. #canada #trump
Here are just a few of the tariffs Canada has on the U.S. long before Trump 45 or 47 Dairy Products: Milk: 270% Cheese: 245% Butter: 298% Other Agricultural Products: Chicken: 238% Sausages: 69.9% Ba

25% tariff on lumber. Our biggest import from Canada. We will never afford housing in the USA

Why is he so vehemently against being compared to Mexico? We do rely on Canada significantly for fuel, lumber, and plastic imports but we also rely heavily on Mexico for agriculture imports…

We rely on lumber from Canada. The USA does not have the resources to meet the demands. If US contractors have to pay 25% more for the lumber what effect do you think that will have on home prices ?

Some of you fail to realize even if a product American made, a lot of the goods/materials used for those products are imported. Or they are made over seas and they put a stamp saying it’s US made

Mexico it’s self sustained country and could outlast a lot of countries. It’s rich in oil, agriculture, mining and now lithium. Why does he insult Mexico like that?

That means that we the people are going to be paying the 25% increase. He’s just saying Canada and Mexico but truthfully, he’s really stating we the consumers are going to pay

why is the comparison even part of this response? why make enemies where there are none. there should only be a drive to do for the people of all three countries.

We buy fabric globally and pay close to 30% tariffs to then manufacture in the USA. It’s hard with those costs bc that pushes down to the consumer. To add more to that makes it even harder.

Weird take. The insult is the 25% tariff, not the comparison. There is a standing trade agreement between the US and both Canada & Mexico because we NEED goods from both countries.
